Most tree removal permits require the DBH (diameter at breast height), measured about 4.5 feet up from ground level. To determine the DBH, wrap a tape measure around the tree at this height to get the circumference, then divide the circumference by 3.14.

Please note that each tree is different, and finding the correct measurement location can vary. Be sure to divide the circumference by 3.14 to complete the DBH calculation accurately.
